The NIH Public Access Policy requires scientists to submit final peer-reviewed manuscripts that result from direct costs funded by NIH, and that are accepted for publication on or after April 7, 2008, to PubMed Central. Compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy is a legal requirement (Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008, Public Law 110-161, Division G, Title II,Section 218) and a term and condition of this training grant award.

This NIH Policy message relates to the submission of final manuscripts of published papers or of the published articles themselves to PubMedCentral. The NIH policy on this matter applies to training grants as well as to research grants. The policy consists of two parts: 1) Manuscripts arising from work supported by the NIH are to be submitted to Pub Med Central; 2) the PMCID Number is to be included along with other bibliographic information as part of the citation of any papers that are reported in the annual progress report or progress section of any competing continuation application for the grant(s) that supported the work.

For manuscripts accepted for publication on or after April 7, 2008, please enter these documents into PubMed Central as soon as possible. Information on how to submit manuscripts can be found at
